Description

This course deals with the application of psychological principles to the design and guidance of educational experiences. It is intended to provide teachers with tools to make the teaching-learning process effective and rewarding. The course examines similarities and differences among learners, various teaching methods, the basics of classroom management, motivation theory, and how to use and construct tests. Wherever possible, applications of psychological principles to Christian education are described.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Appreciate the complexities of the teacher’s job as an educational psychologist. 2. Assess the basic concepts behind educational research and theory. 3. Examine the major theories of cognitive, psychosocial, and moral development and explain how these theories apply to classroom practice. 4. Illustrate how crucial age-level characteristics of learners affects classroom practice. 5. Analyze types of learner variability and illustrate how learner variability affects teaching. 6. Compare and contrast the major learning theories and explain how these apply to classroom practice. 7. Design a classroom management approach that you might use in a real classroom situation. 8. Compare and contrast the major theories of motivation and explain how these theories apply to classroom practice. 9. Illustrate how the three learning domains and their respective taxonomies of educational objectives apply to classroom practice. 10. Appraise evaluation and assessment procedures to determine the results of educational experiences.
