I believe that learning is a lifelong process and that it goes beyond high school years, but being able to serve others and use God’s gift, was the primary motivator for me to continue learning and studying. Currently, we are tackling Introduction to Psychology which is lectured by Dr. Al Reker PHD, an American psychologist. Following this module, we will delve into; Christian Counseling, Introduction to Pastoral Counseling, Introduction to Sociology, Human Relations and Marriage Counseling. Though classroom attendance is necessary for learning and understanding, much of the reading should to be carried out at home prior lectures. Being a working mother of two children often interferes with my studies but through good planning, patience and perseverance I manage to find a balance between studying and spending time with the children.During his teaching, Dr. Al supports psychological theories and principles using Bible Scriptures. In this way, one realizes that like psychology, God’s Word provides truthful answers to all life issues. In addition, the use of real life examples and allowing time for discussion, facilitates students’ understanding of concepts. So far, we have come to understand that Christianity should not be separated from psychology. In other terms, when counselors adopt psychological theories in their counseling, they should also embrace underlying philosophies that accepts biblical truth. In this way when coupled up with Christianity, psychology leads to “a deeper understanding of humanity” (Collins, 2006).
